Understanding Different A/V Platforms

In today’s world, society has created many audios/visual videos, podcasts, pictures, and more. Within these artistic pieces, we must practice an immersive observation that pertains to the detail of these different work styles. Now you must ask, why would I want to sit through a minute-long video of someone being rushed by time? Within this artistic piece, the author has compiled many clips that give off not only an intense reaction but also give the audience the feeling of wanting to see what happens towards the end. This video is called “Deadline” for the different clips, depict a sense of running out of time. The author shows a clock with an audio effect of time. It proceeds to a man walking while an alarm seems to go off. The coloration of the video is in black and white and the background music seems to show a sense of seriousness. The next clip examines a man flipping through pages which the audience can both visually depict and also hear the sounds of pages turning. The purpose of the different detailing that has gone into this video is for the audience to feel a sense of tension which draws them into finding what the ending may pertain.

The author proceeds to show different clips of a man typing and the background noise appears from a phone buzzing. I feel with the background noise of the clock ticking and the initial color that is depicted on the screen can give the audience a sense of stress or anxiousness. Other observations that appear are a combination of the different clips of the man writing, typing, and reading, all put together with the initial alarm that is in the background. Personally, when watching this, I felt that this gave me a sense of anxiety, for there are multiple things happening at once and within the detail of the color, I feel the intensity that the author is trying to show. Towards the end of the video, the image of the clock appears, and it shows the big hand moving extremely fast. I feel this important clip, for it really shapes the entirety of what the author is trying to show his audience. He wants them to feel a sense of rushing and see how time can run out quick.

The different design choices that were chosen to depict the sense of time going by fast has really been shown through the audio and also the visuals. I feel that the author’s touch in adding the detail of the black and white really pulled the sense of an eerie feeling. The last clip shows the man drinking some type of fizzy drink and his screen popping up saying that “Adobe has quit”. From a societal standpoint, when working long hours on a paper or an assignment and having the system itself crash is the worst thing that could happen. The author had a “deadline” and now the system crashed which could mean all his work that he has accomplished is now missing. The audio enhanced as the alarm went off, this symbolized a sense of seriousness and how throughout all the work that he has done, it is now lost.

From a social standpoint, I feel that this video has another meaning to it. In life, we go through multiple projects that may take hours on end, but that should not be what your primary focus is in life. There is more to the world than spending hours or even days trying to rush to finish an assignment. It made me feel a sense of anger towards the end, for through all the clips of this man working; it was just erased at the end. Within the texts we have been reading; I could compare the details of what took place in this reading to the message that was stated in this artist’s work. For example, one author, Jennifer Roberts, ties in A/V culture over the duration of time. She focuses on how we should slow down with the different digital technologies that are put out there and that we should initially take the time to really focus on the true being of the artist’s work. Another author also identifies the concept of the A/V recordings not capturing the reality but initially creating their own reality. I feel within this short video; the author has focused on creating reality through time and the concept of completing the deadlines before they are due. With the engaging visual and audio aspects, the author initially draws the audience into his reality for a minute. This remix of multiple visual and audio clips has really examined the concept and theory of time. I feel as an audience member I could really see what the author was trying to depict through his visuals and the audio that was presented.
